| Trailer Story by Jim Blank After several years of transporting our equipment in the back of a pickup truck with NO hard cover, it became apparent to us that we needed a trailer. We had endured rain, snow, wind and actually loosing equipment off the back of the pickup. One night, the stage slid off the back and tried to pass us as we went around a turn! Mostly Bonnie rode facing the back of the truck, watching our precious cargo and fretting. In reality we knew that we just could not afford to purchase a trailer and everyone told us that finding a used trailer was out of the question, as once someone buys one they keep them forever. We had just taken a huge step of faith in buying the van and signing on the dotted line to receive our fat payment book. We were scheduled to teach classes at the national conference for the Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers in Nashville, TN, We had all this equipment to take, plus four more puppeteers and all their luggage (not to mention our stuff)! What were we to do? It would be impossible to try to get everything in and on top of the van. Although I did think that it would be possible to build a very large box on top of the van. The problem would be going through the tunnels. At the time, my wife and I operated a small real estate company. One of our agents had listed a mobile home for sale. No one was excited, as mobile homes in our area take a long time to sell, if at all. A few months later, this agent informed us that he was moving to another real estate company. We told him that he could take his listings with him, especially the mobile home. He said he would like to but the company that he was transferring to would not allow mobile homes so would we please keep it in our inventory (thanks). We said yes, but we would not spend any money on advertising or promotion because we did not expect it to sell. A couple months later Bonnie received a phone call inquiring about the mobile home park that we had for sale. She said "We don't have a mobile home park for sale." He said "No, listen girlie, not the park, the mobile home in it." She did not remember the listing, but told the caller that I would call him back. (She frequently does that to me.) I called the gentlemen, made an appointment to show the unit and informed him that it was really difficult to get financing on used mobile homes. He said not to worry, if he liked it, he would pay cash. I was skeptical as people usually don't say things like that. After touring the unit, he said that he liked it but wanted to think it over and would let me know tomorrow. (the usual real estate brush-off). The next day he called and said he would buy the trailer and he did! The commission from this sale was one that we never thought that we would see. With the check in my hand, I startled Bonnie when I jumped up from my desk and said "I get it Lord, a trailer for a trailer!" I had just realized that the Lord had provided the money for the utility trailer for the Kingdom Karactors. The amount of the commission check was within pennies of not only what we needed to purchase the trailer, but to also have it lettered and even buy the spare tire!
