Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers
Written in 1993 by Norm Cote, Newsletter Editor
Jim and Bonnie Blank from Elkton, Maryland first became interested in Christian Puppet Ministry when they met Jill Linder at a Phoenix Power and Light workshop in Cleveland Ohio.  After taking Prince Puppets workshops and performing with Jill at Shaker Square, Jim found he really enjoyed working with puppets.  Clowning is also important to their ministry.
The couple own a real estate agency, but their goal is to be full time Christian Ministry workers for the Lord.
They have bought an old house and turned it into a party castle which opened this August for children's birthday parties.  The Christian theme is carried through as the children move from room to room in the castle, meeting Kingdom Karactors created by Jim and Bonnie.  Songs such as This Little Light of Mine echo through the halls as the portrait of the Laughing Jesus looks down from the mantle.
The Blanks were featured in a news article that appeared in papers in Wilmington, Delaware, Baltimore, Md. and Harrisburg, PA.  Bonnie said it's unbelievable what has happened from the exposure.  They are performing  and doing workshops many more places, as well as continuing their work as custom puppet makers.
One of the characters from their "One Nation Under God" program is a blue-faced, bewigged George Washington who says "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible" before breaking into his rendition of "Battle Hymn of the Republic".  Other puppets featured are Mr. McMoney, Louis the Pastor, Hugh Otto Know, Baba Wawa, Miss Liberty and Herschel the puppet who does a spin off of Michael Jackson's "Beat it" with "Read It", referring to the Bible.  Baby lets loose with her best vocals on "America the Beautiful"  interspersed with scripture read by Louis the Pastor about God creating the heaven and earth.
It was a pleasure fellowshipping with Jim and Bonnie at the FCP conference in Spartanburg last July and we look forward to more of the same in Nashville, July 18th - 23rd, Lord willing.  In the meantime the Blanks can be reached at 410-885-5050, or write to them at 108 South Shore Road, Elkton, MD 21921 to learn more about their ministry or order a custom puppet.
